  THE REVCO COMMITMENT:
HOW TREND-BASED MARKETING TOLD A HEALTHCARE STORY

Americans do not take their prescription medications properly. This disturbing national trend, known as "noncompliance," causes an estimated 125,000 preventable deaths a year and 20 percent of all hospitalizations. To help combat the problem and create added value for its patients, Revco Drug Stores developed the nation's first chain-wide program of personalized, computer-generated fact sheets to be issued and discussed by Revco pharmacists with prescriptions – specifically designed to reduce noncompliance. Through targeted marketing, Revco successfully introduced this program – resulting in a major health benefit to customers, dramatic improvements in prescription sales, and positive recognition from the nation's health community.
